This was written in 2000 while I was an undergraduate student majoring in Engineering at Southern University.
I have always been someone who strives to go that extra mile and give 110% in everything I do. In fact, many of my peers refer to me as an overachiever. I did not want to just graduate from high school but graduate with Honors, in the top 5% of my class. I did not just want to attend school, church, and community activities, but become an active leader and role model within them. I do not want to simply graduate from college, but graduate with Honors having defended my thesis well. I do not want to simply work at a successful company, but build and run my own competitive multi-billion (yes, billion) dollar firm. I am not happy being average or only doing exactly what is necessary to get by. My personal goal, in everything I do, is to surround myself with the best of the best and then find a way to become even better than them.
So, being the person I have just described, I am, of course, a very active and ambitious student leader. After graduating from Southern University with Honors, I plan to attend graduate school in the area of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science or Business Administration. My goal is to build my own engineering firm which focuses primarily on research but will also include the designing of new technologies, an engineering consulting firm, and manufacturing facilities.
I am preparing myself for these and other goals by taking advantage of research and intern programs. In the Summer of 1999 I participated in the SMART Program at Southern University, researching the efficiency of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells. During the Fall and Spring semesters I work with Dr. Robert L. Ford researching various topics including curricula on environmental remediation technologies, the importance and benefits of technology transfer, and the importance and effects of the "digital divide". Recently, I interned at Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. I worked in the Network Operations department and was responsible for preparing the network, consultants, and customers for virtual LAN installation at P&G General Offices by developing a pre-installation process, gathering information, developing instructions and other materials for consultants, updating static IP listings, assisting in changing static IPs, etc. I was also exposed to new software including Lotus Notes, HP JetAdmin, Carbon Copy, and Net Meeting. Through these valuable experiences I have not only acquired but enhanced my research, organizational, presentation, teamwork, and time management skills.
